This archival, hand-sewn album/scrapbook is made from 100 gsm, blue-green Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Germany, sewn with waxed Irish linen thread in a tacket stitch that preserves space between the gatherings, permitting the user to insert photos or other items into the book.
The spine of this book is split, top-grain French goatskin, and its boards are covered in a 1955 map of the Atlantic Ocean. The cover is lined with paper that was hand-marbled by Betty Caponi in Monte San Giusto, Italy.
Treasure binding began with monks in the 6th Century who would encrust volumes with jewels. During the Renaissance, there was a resurgence in treasure binding. This is a contemporary revival of the treasure binding in which a lucky charm has been embedded in the cover of this book.
The talisman in this book is 1980 French 2 Franc coin. Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married in 1980, as were other couples who are more lucky, elegant, and regal.
This book is roughly 6.5 x 10” with about 80 blank pages.
