This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands are goatskin, and its bookmark is calfskin. Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Jemma Lewis in Wiltshire, England, and its spine is covered in Badalassi Italian calfskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah. Its gilding was hand-applied using a tool carved by Kevin Noakes in Rustington, West Sussex, England.
The talisman in this book is a 1937 Bacchus coin, a souvenir from a Grape Cure Resort in France. It’s obverse reads: “Fédération Française des Stations Uvales, 1937.”
