Beachy Head

$180.00

This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1977 British Admiralty map of the English Chanel from Anvil Point to Beachy Head, and the book is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah.

The talisman in this book is a souvenir from the final voyage of the Queen Mary to Long Beach, California, where she is permanently moored still.  Its obverse reads: “Maiden Voyage May 27.1936. Arrived Long Beach Dec. 9.1967.  1001 Round Trips on the Atlantic.  War Service: March 1940-September 1948. Transported 810,730 Military Personnel.”
