This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1949 map of Europe, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah. Its ormolu is hand-applied using tools carved by Kevin Noakes in Rustington, West Sussex, England.
The talisman in this book is souvenir from the summit of the, then new, Eiffel Tower at the 1889 World’s Fair, the Exposition Universelle, in Paris.
