This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands are goatskin, and its bookmark is calfskin. Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Katherine Brett at Payhembury Papers in Migdale, Southerland, Scotland, and its spine is covered in Badalassi Italian calfskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah. Its gilding was hand-applied using one of our new tools carved by Kevin Noakes in Rustington, West Sussex, England.
The talisman in this book is a 1957 medallion from the Paris coop, sculpted by Émile Fernand-Dubois. Its obverse reads: “Quarantenaire d l’Union des Cooperateurs, Paris 2 Juin 1957.”
