This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Germany, sewn with  Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

This book’s endbands are brown and yellow cotton, and its bookmark is goatskin.  Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Jemma Lewis in Wiltshire, England, and the spine is encased in French goatskin.

The talisman in this book is a watch fob souvenir from the 1889 Exposition Universale in Paris, the World’s Fair for which the Eiffel Tower was built.  In the late 18th Century, both men and women frequently carried pocket watches, and the fob was a counter weight chained to a timepiece and kept in an adjacent watch pocket.  Form, function, fabulousness.
