This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1969 map of Indianapolis, showing the infamous Speedway, and the book is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah.
The talisman in this book is a 1969 souvenir commemorating Mario Andretti’s record-breaking win at the Indianapolis 500. After leading 116 of 200 laps, Andretti set a new race record by averaging 156.87 mph. It would be his only win at Indianapolis in 29 career attempts. The obverse of this coin is a bust of Andretti.
