This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands are goatskin, and its bookmark is calfskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1939 map of Greater New York, and its spine is covered in Badalassi Italian calfskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah. It was hand-gilded, using tools carved by Kevin Noakes in Rustington, West Sussex, England.
The talisman in this book is a souvenir coin from the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
